    • Skolnick, Simon E., of Longmeadow, MA, and Delray Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the age of 95. Simon was the beloved husband of Lillian Skolnick, and proudly reminded everyone how fortunate he was for his joyful 61 years of marriage and that "Lily was the best thing that ever happened to him!" Si and his family lived by his ever present credo, "To love and to be loved is the greatest joy on earth." He was one of four children born to Russian immigrants and he grew up in Springfield's North End. He served in the army during World War II. In the 1940's he founded Mohawk Furniture in Greenfield, MA and his vision to open up a high quality furniture store to service the needs of a growing Springfield brought him back home. There he opened BottaroSkolnick Fine Furniture and Interior Design, offering design services and providing home and office furnishings to the area for over 55 years. He and his wife were avid golfers and bridge players and were among the founding members of Twin Hills Country Club. Simon found great joy in his musical pursuits, playing the oboe, clarinet and saxophone. His music career spanned from his days in a "Big Band" in the 1930's to frequent orchestral performances in Massachusetts and Florida. His appreciation and love for music has been lovingly passed on to his five grandchildren...Jeffrey Rothenberg, Sarah Rothenberg, Eddie Skolnick, Hannah Skolnick, and Rose Marie Gordon. He leaves his daughter Barbara Skolnick Rothenberg and her husband, David, of Amherst, Massachusetts, his son, Barry Skolnick, and his wife, Laurie of Dallas, Texas, and his Daughter Susan Gordon of Key Largo, Florida. He will also be missed by his loving sister, Evelyn Myers, nieces, nephews, friends, and caregivers. He and his family were long time members of Sinai Temple and the Springfield Jewish Community Center. The funeral will be held on Friday, October 8, at 11 a.m. at Sinai Temple on Dickinson St. in Springfield with burial in Sinai Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Sinai Temple, 1100 Dickinson St. Springfield, MA. 01108. The Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home is assisting the family.
